Audio Book Review: The Alpha By Dannika Dark

The Alpha
(Black Arrowhead #2)
By Dannika Dark

Narrated: Nicole Poole
Length: 9 hours and 49 minutes

Book 2 will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Hope is a young woman on the brink of a successful career as a jeweler. The last thing she needs right now is trouble, but trouble finds her when she’s caught trespassing on private property. Bad luck is following her like a menacing cloud, and the only way to survive the storm is to walk through it.

Tak is a fish out of water in the city, but settling unfinished business with an old friend means leaving tribal land and traveling to Austin. Things heat up after a chance meeting with a captivating woman who commands his attention. Hope is intelligent, unpredictable, and knee-deep in trouble. Instead of burying the hatchet with his old friend, Tak risks everything to protect a woman he barely knows.

Two Shifters are on a collision course with destiny, but will the sins of their past prevent them from having a future?

Love takes courage.

My Review:

Let me start by saying that I really enjoyed this book! I loved seeing a different side to Tak. I loved how reminiscent of the Seven series this was. Though it felt like there was something missing and I can't quite put my finger on it.

Hope was a great character to get to know! She's gone through a not-so-great situation which has caused some ongoing issues in the present. I liked how the author dealt with everything surrounding her. I loved that she wasn't miraculously cured after she met Tak. I liked that she made him work for it to make sure she wasn't just an afterthought to him.

I wasn't expecting to like Tak as much as I did. He can come off as gruff but he's a huge sweetheart deep down. Not everyone sees that side of him so it's even more precious when it finally comes out. I loved how he respected Hope enough to understand the situation and fight for her when needed but also step back when she asked.

The mystery being resolved the way it did was not what I thought was coming! I loved being caught off-guard. It was a just ending to those SOBs. On the other hand, I was expecting what happened at the very very end. Though now I'm curious as to who is going to be next. It's been so long since I read the Seven series that I don't really remember who had kids and how many so this series going forward is going to be one big surprise after another for me.

The Audio Book:

The narration was fantastic as always! I love love love Nicole Poole! Every character had a very distinctive voice and didn't blend with one another.
