2018 End Of The Year Book Survey

Hiya My Little Predators!

Here we are once again: End Of The Year Book Survey!

We are back here once again! I enjoy reflecting on the books I read and what I published on this blog every year. It's nice to see where I started and how I've evolved year to year with these posts. Life was hectic this year but I'm choosing to believe that things are getting better. *knock on wood*

My year in one quote: "Try. Celebrate. Commiserate. Live. Learn. Repeat. You'll reach your goal eventually." - Brenda Rothert

So without farther ado:

Happy New Year!
& Here's to many more!

Hope you guys enjoy!!

Hosted By Jamie over at Perpetual Page Turner

Number Of Books You Read: 67 (3 more than last year!)
Number of Re-Reads: 4
Number Of DNF's: 21+ books unfortunately
Genre You Read The Most From: Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy took the cake this year!

1. Best Book You Read In 2018?

Gaslight (Crossbreed #4)
By Dannika Dark

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

Alluring Raven By Jessica Sorensen (My Review) is the first one that comes to mind! My problem was that it felt like a filler for the next book in the series. Nothing happened until the almost end.

3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?

Surprising In A Bad Way: Moon Kissed By Jennifer Snyder (My Review)

4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?

This year I made it my mission to push any and all Dannika Dark books on whoever came across my blog. I believe I've almost converted a few people. We'll see how it all pans out ;)

5. Best series you started in 2018? Best Sequel of 2018? Best Series Ender of 2018?

Best Series I Started in 2018: Shades Of Wicked
By Jeaniene Frost (My Review)

Best Sequel of 2018: Dark Arts & A Daquiri
By Annette Marie (My Review)

Best Series Ender of 2018: Steel & Stone Companion Novel
By Annette Marie (My Review)

6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2018?

I didn't venture too much outside my "regular" authors this year! though I will say Caitlin Kittredge is doing a great job of keeping me interested in a graphic novel series (Witchblade 2017) for the first time in forever

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?

I didn't venture outside of my genres of preference but I did venture outside of the tropes I typically like in books with two novels: Want You By Jen Frederick & The Boy & His Ribbon By Pepper Winters. Both feature the guardian (older kid) falling in love with the minor that they are caring for but have no blood relation to and vise versa. I learned that I feel icky when their relationship starts to evolve and that those types of books aren't for me.

8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

Year after year goes by and my answer continues to be the same: The Crossbreed Series By Dannika Dark (My Review)

9. Book You Read In 2018 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?

I don't plan my re-reads, so I couldn't tell you even if I tried :/

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2018?

Blackout By Dannika Dark (My Review)

Let's take a moment to bask in it's beauty:

11. Most memorable character of 2018?

Raven Black from the Crossbreed Series By Dannika Dark (My Review), mostly because the series is still ongoing. I'm doing my best to not forget important details! (Still accurate for this year!)

12. Most beautifully written book read in 2018?

You'll be seeing a lot of this series this year in this post!

Blackout By Dannika Dark (My Review)

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2018?

I didn't pick up any life-changing books this year :/

14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2018 to finally read?

The Gift (Mageri #5.5) By Dannika Dark (My Review) - So MANY spin-off opportunities!!

15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2018?

This is Mission IMPOSSIBLE for me. Every book I review I mention my favorite quotes from the book at the end of the review. If I tell you I have A LOT of favorite quotes it's putting it mildly.... (Still true from the last few years...)

16. Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2018?

Shortest: Witchblade 2017 #9 By Caitlin Kittredge (28 pages - My Review)
Longest: Silver Silence By Nalini Singh (Audio Book | 16 hours 1 minute - My Review)

17. Book That Shocked You The Most

White Hot Kiss By Jennifer Armentrout disappointed me in many ways unfortunately (My Review)

18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)
* OTP = one true pairing

Lakota & Melody from the Gift novella (Mageri #5.5)
By Dannika Dark (My Review)

19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year

The relationship the Keystone group from the Crossbreed Series By Dannika Dark has with each other. The respect and protective nature of it is amazing!

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2018 From An Author You’ve Read Previously

Gaslight (Crossbreed #4)
By Dannika Dark (My Review) teehee...

21. Best Book You Read In 2018, That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:

My friends don't usually recommend me books because I'm the sole book enthusiast. (Still true from the last few years...)

22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2018?

Tyler from Reckless in the Alpha Bodyguard Series
By Sybil Bartel (My Review)

23. Best 2018 debut you read?

Brooding YA Hero
By Carrie Ann DiRisio (My Review)

24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?

Crossbreed Series
By Dannika Dark (My Review) :)

25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?

Wild Card
By Rachel Vincent (My Review)

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2018?

By Dannika Dark (My Review)

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?

Wild Card
By Rachel Vincent (My Review)

28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?

The Gift (Mageri #5.5) By Dannika Dark (My Review)

So many possible spin-offs but none of them have been announced and written! My heart can't handle it!

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2018?

Three Mages and a Margarita (The Guild Codex: Spellbound #1) By Annette Marie (My Review) - The world this author creates feels so real and plausible!

White Hot Kiss
By Jennifer Armentrout (My Review)

1. New favorite book blog you discovered in 2018?

I know I came across a few new ones I really enjoy but they're all blurring together (like many things have this year). I don't actually know when I discovered them so we'll leave it at that!

2. Favorite review that you wrote in 2018?

I'm so far ahead in reviews that they're all blurred together at this point. I couldn't pick one if it killed me :/ (Still true this year)

3. Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?

In my opinion: Paranormal Experiences: Are You A Believer?

4. Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?

I live in bumf*%@ nowhere in a small town in Brazil no less. No authors I know actually come here and travel is very expensive so it's not a possibilty as of now.

5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2018?

Comments :)

6. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?

Finally getting over my reading slump, only to have my eyes get worse than ever. Apparently, it's an allergy to something in the air (according to one of the many doctors I've seen) and even if I knew what it was from there isn't much to be done about it other than eye drops for the moment.

7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?

By Views: Authors I’ve Read The Most Books From (As Of 2018)
By Comments: It's a tie between Five Popular Books That Lived Up To The HypeBingeworthy TV Shows

8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?

Paranormal Experiences: Are You A Believer?

9. Best bookish discovery (book related sites, bookstores, etc.)?

Literature Map! It creates a "map" of authors similar to the one you're looking up. It's great for giving you a smaller pool of authors to start your search for the next book on!

10. Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?

I completed the Goodreads Challenge! I set out to read 55 books this year and I ended up reading 64!

1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2018 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2019?

This! I need to read Chaos Falls (Chaos #3) By Pippa DaCosta (Goodreads) this year!

2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2019 (non-debut)?

Nevermore (Crossbreed #6) By Dannika Dark (Goodreads)

3. 2019 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?

The Women's War (Women’s War #1) By Jenna Glass (Goodreads) - This is a technicality because this is actually Jenna Black writing as Jenna Glass.

4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2019?

Transcendent (Denazen #4) by Jus Accardo (Goodreads)
We're finally getting an ending!!! - This book is still in the works to get published. It was supposed to be in 2018 but it's apparently moved to 2019. I just want it to get released. Eventually would be nice!

5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2019?

Try more books that are out of my "comfort zone" where genre and book troupes are concerned!

6. A 2019 Release You’ve Already Read & Recommend To Everyone:

ARC's have taken a back seat in the last few years so I don't have any to recommend :/

What was the best book you read this year?
Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Nice quote! And yes that Blackout cover is amazing. Can't argue there. :)

Brooding YA Hero looks super fun!

I think I saw Three Mages and a Margarita here first and now I see it popping up all over!

And I agree about reading more out of my comfort zone- I'm going to try and do that in 2019 as well.

    Great post!

    1. Thanks! Great minds think alike :)

Brooding YA Hero also has some amazing quotes... well taken out of context!

The Guild Codex series By Annette Marie has proven to be SO fun! I'm glad so many other people are enjoying it!

Comfort zone is great and all but venturing out, on occasion, makes for a better world view :)

      Thanks!
