Book Review: Throne of Stars and Cinders By Leeann M. Shane

Throne of Stars and Cinders
(The Pair Bond Chronicles #2)
By Leeann M. Shane

Emmie and Maxell’s epic love story continues in the suspenseful and thrilling sequel to Court of Frost and Embers by Leeann M. Shane.

Welcome to Faierie. Where magic replaces air and promises are dangerous weapons. A lot has been kept from Emmie Tealson. Poisoned for most of her life by windmint, she was led to believe that she was human. But Emmie isn’t human. She is fae. A royal fae to be exact. One destined to become princess of the entire Fire Court. She also didn’t know that she would bond to a vampire, or that falling in love was the easy part. Love is, of course, the greatest weapon of them all.

The fae do not own mirrors. Their reflections are dangerous. They do not wear shoes. That’s what happens when you fall from the stars. And they most certainly do not touch doorknobs. They are as beautiful as they are cruel. Perhaps that’s why war is in the air, and the Queen of the Water Court won’t stop until she drowns out every last cinder fire has left.

Thrust into a world of unadulterated magic and pure deceit, Emmie Tealson must learn to navigate her new life as a royal fae fast… lest someone takes it.

She’ll fight for the Fire Court, herself, and most of all for love.

How far would you go to save the person you love? Emmie’s about to find out. That is to say, if the stars allow it.

My Review:

This series has such an interesting story! The worldbuilding with every novel is more and more believable. I love how smooth the transitions are between one event to the other. Though be warned that the writing style is on the more descriptive side. I learned to deal with it throughout the novel because the story is just that good but it's not something that I love in the books I read. On the other hand, my main issue with this one is more of a personal annoyance than anything: The amnesia plotline.

Maxell has gone through SO much. This poor kid really deserves a break and a happy ending that stays happy. I liked him for Emmie. When he's in his right mind, he's sweet to her and will fight for her even when it isn't necessary. He's a keeper if you ask me!

Emmie's trajectory is fascinating! I like how she's becoming who she was always meant to be. She's strong and capable. She understands that it's going to be a hard journey but is in it for the long hall.

I love the expressions the author turns on their heads and sprinkles into the story to go with the mythology and worldbuilding. This is one of the more "original" takes in terms of the mythology and overall worldbuilding I've read in some time. Then again every story is based on or derived from something else someone has written. So take that with a grain of salt. I personally don't think I've read anything that's reminiscent enough of the world the author is building and I find it to be very interesting. Overall, now that the amnesia is out of the way I'm excited to see what happens next!
