My Ramblings: Reading Along With An Audio Book?

Reading Along With
An Audio Book?

I saw someone comment on this on Twitter the other day and it had me feeling nostalgic. I remember in elementary school when teachers had other things to get done they would play a tape of the story we were reading that week and have everyone listen to it and follow along in the book. I think the stories were so boring that I ended up hating following along with a narration.

When I was first getting into audio books I tried doing this and it didn't last long. It didn't help that audio books had a tendency to make me fall asleep just at the mear thought of listening to one.

I haven't tried doing this in the longest time but I still don't think it'd be all that productive. Though it would probably help with keeping my english from getting rusty. I can also imagine it'd be a great way to learn the correct pronunciation of certain words if you're learning a new language.

Have you ever read along with an audio book?
Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I think you're right, your two examples make perfect sense. I've never done this, mainly because I struggle with audio anyway, but it's an interesting idea! And I can see it being useful in some ways!

    1. There's definitely a learning curve with audio books. You just need to find the right type of story and characteristics you like in a narration. After that it's sheer willpower :)

  2. I honestly think my daughter was an early reader, because of those read-a-long books I got her when she was very young. I am doing a KU trial, and they have the option to have the book read to you. It's kind of cool the way it highlights as it reads. I only listened to it, but thought it was a cool feature.

    1. That's interesting! Developing a love for books and reading early on will do great things later on. I didn't know about that! The highlighting while it reads would probably keep my attention more if I were to ever try it out :)
