Hiya My Little Predators!!
Welcome back to the Top Ten Tuesday meme!!
It's a weekly feature created By The Broke and the Bookish!
Today's official topic is a Father's Day related freebie, but I don't have any novels to recommend for that subject, unless men have suddenly fallen in love with romance novels. So this week I've decided to do a throwback to an older TTT topic:
Eight Books That Made Me Think
* Book titles are linked to my review of that particular book.
* The books listed are in no particular order.
I adore this novel. I've said, in various posts in the past, that this is the only self help book I've read that I would consider rereading for fun because it was THAT good and enlightening. He has a no nonsense take to everything and doesn't aim to stuff anything forcibly down anyones throat.
This book made me realize that living in a regular society as a deaf person is harder than I had first considered. This book went as far as intriguing me enough to start looking up ASL and learning a few signs.
This book made it so the reader has no choice but connect on a deep level with the situations that the characters are put through. This book shows how young love can go astray and that things can take their sweet time getting better. It also touched on the subject of becoming deaf (but having an opportunity to reverse it).
This novel highlighted how terrifying loan sharks can be and how desperate someone can get to pay them off or continue dealing with it. It wasn't until I had someone very close to me go through something along those lines that it became that much more real and scary.
This book made it's central plot line (next to the romantic element) revenge porn. This is horrifying. It's very hard to deal with and it's never ending because there are almost no laws to put a definite stop to it. The saddest part is that it's usually someone you thought you could trust with something that personal.
From what I remember this novel involves childhood abuse and human trafficking. It was a very eye opening novel. I'd recommend this to the end of the world and back.
Everyone knows that cancer is a horrific and terrifying disease. I didn't know that it could get any worse than that through the point of view of a girl who has the disease and sees her boyfriend die of the same disease. This novel broke my heart and made me realize that no matter how much time you think you have in this life, it's usually not what the world/fate has planned out for you. "Some infinities are smaller than other infinities."
This was heartbreaking. It's even harder to come to the realization that it's a reality that happens to many in their teenage years. I'd like to reiterate to anyone that's considering suicide that it's NEVER the answer and to please talk to someone because it will eventually get better. Please visit the Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
Do you have any life changing books to recommend to me?
