My Review:
* Everything in red is a spoiler.
The first book blew me away because I didn't know what to expect and loved what I got. This book was lukewarm because I knew what I wanted but everything kind of fell short of my expectations. Boy does it suck having to write that!
Summer had everything to be an interesting heroine but she managed to ruin everything she touched and lie to everyone for no reason other than to "not worry them". She was also so dense when it came to her love spiel. I understand that what people consider love can vary but would it kill her to try and understand where he's coming from and why he's so averse to her kind of love and that his way of expressing love is just as valid even though she may not like or understand it?
The Winter Prince was actually lovely in this book! He was understanding, kind, and loyal to Summer and his friends. He literally ruined his life (*in a way* I can't explain because of SPOILERS) for Summer. He proved himself time and time again only to get shot down by Summer time and time again. By the end of it, I just wanted him to find someone who actually appreciated him and leave Summer to the wolves or faeries, in this case.
I feel very strongly about how annoying the ending was. It felt like the author was pulling every trick out of the bag to make a third book necessary in this series. I don't know how many books are planned but things could have easily been managed if ...
SPOILERS
Summer had enchanted the snake not to get her friend while also jumping into the portal first and go on to win the Gauntlet. The Spring Prince would have then lost their bargain and she and the Winter Prince would be on a rocky road to being together, eventually.
END OF SPOILERS
In conclusion, I feel ripped off. Couple that with all the unnecessary drama, secrets and the overly mean mean girls/gang(?) I'm just tired. I'll probably put myself through the next book in this series because I want to see the Winter Prince have a happy ending because he at least deserves it after all he's been through.
The Audio Book:
The narration was great! All the voices were distinct enough for me not to get lost during the narration. There were no weird noises in the narration.
