Book Review: A Sucky Love Story By Brittani Louise Taylor

A Sucky Love Story:
Overcoming Unhappily Ever After
By Brittani Louise Taylor

What if falling in love meant almost losing everything?

Where does a moderately popular internet star who never leaves her house look for potential suitors? Online. Tinder, Bumble, Match.com, OkCupid—I tried them all. My thirty-two-year-old self clicked and swiped her little heart out, leading to more dates than I could count, and more disappointment than I was prepared for.

Maybe you can relate. Maybe you know all too well the perils of modern dating. But let’s say, eventually, you meet someone. You think to yourself, “Wow, they’re perfect! Take me off the market, put a ring on it, knock me up, the whole enchilada, because they are ‘the one.’” Let’s also say that they “feel the same way” about you. Your life starts to make sense! All the pain, heartbreak, and frustration from past failed relationships was worth it. Slow clap.

That’s how I felt about Milos. He was from Europe, a doctor, wealthy, athletic. He had an accent and a dog. Milos was textbook marriage material.

For him it was “love at first sight,” but for me, it was “anxiety on every date.”

Something was telling me to run—but for two years, the only running I did was straight into his arms.

If only I would have listened.

This isn’t a love story.

It’s my story of survival.

My Review:

I haven't followed Brittani on Youtube for years. I liked her personality enough to check in every few years or so to see what type of videos she was putting out there.

I may be on the unpopular opinion with this but I didn't mind the writing style. It kept me interested enough in the general story for me to stick around. Could it have been better paced and more direct-to-the-point? Yes. Was it still a terrifying story that no one should ever have to go through? Also, yes.

I like her almost naive sense of what love is. That's something that has been going extinct in the world in the last few decades. I can understand and empathize with how she went about this relationship. Loneliness and a not-so-great sense of self-worth can do wonders for allowing trouble in. I respect her for having the guts to write about what happened to her. It's not easy and I admire anyone who's willing to run the risk of being harassed and bullied to bring whoever hurt them to justice (or at least make sure they can't do it to them again).

This guy has guts I'll give him that. His convoluted story is just that: A story. He was sketchy from the beginning but love can do incredibly stupid things to the brain (or so I've heard).

The last few chapters had my heart going! I'm glad she got the restraining order and hope things start going her way in the future. If nothing else, everyone should take this book as a cautionary tale in dating. Maybe before you meet up with someone do some digging online to make sure they're legitimate?

My Favorite Quotes:

"Looks come and go, but a sense of humor is forever."

"Don't be afraid of love. Just do a background check first."

"There is strength in numbers, and power in the truth."
