Book Tag: The Clichés Book Tag

This tag was created by Miranda Hayes on her Youtube Channel! It asks a few questions featuring cliché tropes in books. The only thing left for me to do is "fill in the blanks" with books I think are appropriate for that specific question. I wasn't tagged in this and I won't be tagging anyone, so feel free to participate in this tag and leave your link the comments below! I'd love to see your answers! Let's get started!

* Book titles are either linked to my review or to the books Goodreads page.

1. Actions speak louder than words.
A book that wasn't or couldn't be better than the movie.

As beautiful as the movie was, the book was so much more emotional and heartbreaking! The movie can't compare to the level of sorrow I had to go through to finish that story.

2. The grass is always green on the other side.
A rags to riches...or riches to rags story.

The heroine is on the run from her past while making minimum wage. The hero is ex-military with a security agency specialized in keeping people safe from extremes. You can guess where the rest of the story goes!

3. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
A parent-child relationship you loved.

It wasn't a specific set of parents with a child that made this book memorable in that sense. It was more of the overall family dynamic that I admire about this set of character's that this author created. Everyone is so close and helpful when someone is in trouble and it's beautiful to see in a novel.

4. You can't judge a book by its cover.
A great book that NEEDS a better cover.

The covers this series has had aren't bad, but I don't think they represent the story in the slightest. This story takes place in an era where it's normal for people to dress in almost victorian-era clothes. Why not exemplify that with the covers? Why not put someone on the cover with a high collared dress and dark makeup? That would be a stunning cover and would represent the universe the author created and the characters better.
This is the first set of covers for this series.

5. You can't please everyone.
A book you hate/love that everyone loves/hates.

Most people that read this book seem to adore it. I read it and I can't say enough how annoying the heroine is. The hero doesn't help things because he's usually right there with her when she starts overreacting to certain situations. I couldn't hate this book more if I tried.

6. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
A book you are a better person for having read.

This book put a lot of things in perspective for me.

7. Love is blind.
A book with a disabled character OR actual blind love.

The main character is deaf and it makes for an incredible story!

8. Ignorance is bliss.
A book you know is bad but don't want to admit it or a book you don't want to read in case it's bad.
A book you know is not very good but you're eternally grateful for having read.

I will be eternally grateful for Twilight because it was essentially my gateway drug. This book is responsible for opening my eyes to new genres I had no idea even existed before I read it. I can look back today and recognize that it's not a very good book when compared to all the other much better books I've read throughout the years. Even so, it will always have a place in my heart.

9. There is no time like the present.
Your favorite contemporary book.

I don't pick favorites, but this book is one of the few that still stands out even after all these years. It's a beautiful and heartwrenching story.

10. Better safe than sorry.
A book you don't want to read in case it's bad or vice versa!

From the few bad reviews I've read about this novel, it was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth. I'm scared of finally reading this and end up hating it because I adored the first one.

Are you a fan of a cliché or two in books?
Let's discuss in the comments below!

  1. Aww, I feel slightly the same way about Twilight! I think it's one of the books (well, the movies actually) that got me so into YA. I wouldn't be the avid reader I am now if it wasn't for Stephenie Meyer. <3

    1. From what I've read around the blogosphere Twilight was a lot of peoples "gateway drug" into other genres. It's interesting to see how everyone evolved from reading the same book :)
