My Ramblings: Vampires Are Back?

Vampires Are Back?

There was a bit of an uproar on twitter about agents requesting vampire specific books and, all of a sudden, everyone started saying that vampires were "back". My question, along with a lot of other readers and book bloggers on Twitter, is since when have they ever fully left the bookish scene?

I love paranormal romance books in general. It's the genre I read the most books in throughout the year. Vampires, werewolves, and any other paranormal creature you can think of I would love to read about. With that being said, I've never stopped reading books about vampires throughout the years. I can agree that it's been a little harder to find them, but it's not an impossible feat.

I can only assume people thought vampire books were "out" because, all of a sudden, traditional publishers started shying away from them. Well, I'm here to inform you that indie authors never stopped writing and publishing books about vampires. Most are just as well written and edited as a traditional publisher's books are and full book series get released a lot faster.

For me, bookish trends don't affect my reading habits. When a particular subgenre isn't on trend it can get a little harder to find good books but it's still possible. A lot of amazing indie books don't get the attention and following they deserve. So next time you're on the lookout for a book that's not on trend consider giving an indie author a chance!

Did you know that vampire books were "back"?
Were you just as "surprised"?

  1. Thank you for writing this post! I agree with every single thing you said! I also had that same question of when did they ever leave? But it's exactly what you said---traditional big pubs stopped pub'ing a lot of them, and so many people still refuse to read indie and self-pub, even though they can be just as amazing and well-written and well-edited. And it makes me sad that so many indie books don't get the attention they deserve simply because of that stigma. But anyway, I've also been happily reading them this whole time since vampires are my fave paranormal creature :-)

    1. Why let traditional publishers dictate what you read is my question to all those people who shy away from indie authors. In the beginning they were a hit or miss but the industry has come a long way since then! They really are missing out on a lot! ♡ Vampires

  2. I'm speaking as a YA reader, since I don't really read enough paranormal romances as much as I'd like to. xD I did notice that there's been a significant lack of vampire books, which is a shame. I did love them when they were a "thing", and I'd love to see traditional publishers get back to them. I didn't know that they were "back" though!

    1. I used to read a lot more YA PNR a few years ago and it felt like the well had dried up for a few years there. Now I know it's because the kind of YA PNR I was looking for just wasn't being traditionally published as freely. I hope vampire books become a "thing" again, but even if they don't I have an almost unlimited amount of indie books to choose from at this point :)

  3. First of all, Twitter is always about uproar. So, not surprised that people there are blowing things out of proportion. And, you are totally right. Just because they weren't churning out huge hits doesn't mean vampires weren't being written about. I don't read as much PNR as I used to, but I see other people are reading vampire books when I blog hop.

    1. That's very true! Social media in general likes to make things bigger than it actually is. Just because vampires aren't "in" doesn't mean they've simply poofed out of existence. Vampire books aren't all over the place like they were in the Twilight days, but they're still there for those who look for them specifically :)
