Scorched
(Frigid #2)
By Jennifer L. Armentrout

Published: June 16th 2015
Published By: Spencer Hill Press

Sometimes life leaves a mark…

Most days, Andrea doesn’t know whether she wants to kiss Tanner or punch him in the gut. He is seriously hot, with legit bedroom eyes and that firefighter body of his, but he’s a major player, and they can’t get along for more than a handful of minutes. Until now.

Tanner knows he and Andrea have had an epic love/hate relationship for as long as he can remember, but he wants more love than hate from her. He wants her. Now. Tomorrow. But the more he gets to know her, the more it becomes obvious that Andrea has a problem. She’s teetering on the edge and every time he tries to catch her, she slips through his fingers.

Andrea’s life is spiraling out of control, and it doesn’t matter that Tanner wants to save her, because when everything falls apart and she’s speeding toward rock bottom, only she can save herself.

Sometimes life makes you work for that happily ever after…

My Review:

What a moving story. A few tears even caught me by surprise by the end. This is a beautiful fictional example that happy endings are possible, even if you're suffering from addictions or traumas.

Andrea (AKA 'Andy') liked drinking. She always drunk so much that she ended up sick or didn't remember events. I can't go into more details without giving out spoilers, just know that the situation ended up being pretty dire. Even with her friends around she wouldn't open up and that ended up almost costing her her happiness.

Tanner is the "hero". I don't know how Mrs. Armentrout did it, but she turned a manwhore into a relationship guy in the span of one book. Tanner turned out to be trust worthy, caring and just an all around good guy.

I loved that Sydney and Kyler were in this novel! The beginning seemed a little like deja vu, but I wasn't disappointed. The twists and turns added on made the story feel original and the pacing of it all was on point.

Conclusion: If you have a problem, try and get help. It may not be easy, but in the long run it'll be the best thing you could have done. Surround yourself with friends and family that you know care about your wellbeing. Be brave. Be strong. Be you.

Favorite Quotes:

"You know, usually the people who smile the most and laugh the loudest are the ones who...suffer the most."

"Their whole story was a thing of fairytales, what little girls dreamed of - what I still kind of dreamed of in really pathetically sad sort of way."

The following quote isn't in the story per se. It's part of the acknowledgments and Mrs. Armentrout couldn't have said it better:

"[...] and that by the time you've reached the end [of the book], you can see that no matter what you're facing or the mistakes you have made, there is always a happily ever after waiting for you."

**Excerpt**

Andrea

“You’ve been avoiding me all day.”

“Have not.”

He cocked his head to the side and raised both brows. “You practically hid in your room or attached yourself to Syd all day.”

“I was…I was spending girl-time with her,” I said. “And napping.”

“Andrea…”

He’d been right. I had avoided him. Apparently, I wasn’t doing that great of a job of it.

“The same with last night. You barely talked to me.”

“What?” Dumbfounded, I felt like screaming that word. “I barely talked to you? You ignored me.”

He stared at me. “Andy, I—“

“This is stupid. This whole thing is stupid.” I lifted the bottle.

A moment passed and he asked, “Do you really think you need another beer?”

Annoyed, I slowly brought the bottle to my mouth and took a long drink. “Does that answer your question?”

The hue of his blue eyes deepened. “Look, I’m not trying to be a dick—“

“You might want to try harder. Just sayin’ Might just be my opinion, but thought I’d share.”

He opened his mouth and then snapped it shut. Several seconds passed. “You know, I didn’t’ say that shit to you to piss you off.”

I wanted to point out everything he’d done to piss me off, but…but shit on a brick. Anything that I told him would betray how I felt about him, and well, I was already embarrassing myself enough without going there. “You breathed,” I decided, nodding, and totally proud of myself. “How about that?”

Shaking his head, he rested his elbows on the island. “You can usually do better than that.”

“It’s not worth my time to do better.” I flounced past him. Well, I might have staggered past him, but in my head, I flounced like a Grade A Uppity Chick, and it was awesome.

“I wish you wouldn’t drink so much.”

My feet stopped. Dammit. My feet had a mind of their own, and they had stopped because he’d said that so quietly, not with an ounce of derision or scorn. Actually, it sounded like a plea. The alcohol churned in my stomach. All I could see was his look of pity.

“Why do you drink like this?” he asked.

To relax. To not act like a freak. To forget. To remember. To be funny. To have people like me. To not care if they do or don’t. To have fun. To just not care. A burning sensation rolled down my back as my head continued to shout out the answers. I just didn’t want to care.

I didn’t say any of that. “You drink.”

“I do. And sometimes I drink and I get drunk, but not every time.”

Slowly, I faced him. He wasn’t looking at me. His eyes were on the island. “I don’t get drunk every time.”

He shook his head again. “Andrea, you either get plastered or damn near close. Every time.”

“That’s not…” I trailed off, and yeah, even I could see where he was right. I could probably count on one hand how many times I’d only had two beers or two shots and then stopped. Come to think of it, I wasn’t sure if I ever had.

“My dad got shitfaced all the time,” he continued. “Never thought that I’d be interested in a girl who was the same way.”

My brain registered two things at once. He was interested in me, which wasn’t a big duh. I mean, he’d had his hands in my pants more than once, so yeah, I should’ve known that. But he compared me to his dad, a man I’d recently discovered he pretty much loathed, which pretty much canceled out the first part. Hurt invaded every cell and festered under the skin. The back of my throat burned and I wanted to rush away.

But I didn’t. “That kind of makes you twisted.”

Another weak laugh came out of him. “I guess it kind of does.”

Available At:

My Review:

I'll start off by saying that this book contained TOO much angst. Everything was complicated. Even the simplest problem that came up for Annie was too much. Don't get me wrong. The first 230 pages (on my iPad) were awesome, but then I noticed a trend and it just got annoying.

I started out liking and respecting Annie, but by the end I was rooting for it all to go down hill. I understand that she's been sheltered and wants to experience life, but what responsible person goes out to club, gets drunk and while drunk consents after being asked by an older drunk guy if they could go back to his apartment? I'd like to point out though that she didn't go to the afore mentioned apartment because she got intercepted by her flavor of the week (Chris) and his friends.

I had a problem with a lot of Annie's actions. For example, when she knew she was over Chris she still kept leading him on, kept making excuses and never told Cami because she was scared Cami would get mad. My question: WHY would she get mad? Just because the other person likes you doesn't mean you have to go with the flow!

Chris started out decent, but turned into a total girl by page 400. He was more emotional then Annie and that's saying a lot after you actually finish reading this book. He was the clingy one and it bothered me SO much. The worst part was reading about Annie complain about being helpless and not wanting him and blah blah blah.

Ryan was a coward. even he didn't know what he wanted in life when it came to Annie. He kept leading her along and then would (metaphorically) slap her for believing they could have something together. All the back and forth that was happening was making my queasy. By page 500 I wanted it to be over with. I'd prefer to read what was happening in Cami's life.

My Favorite Quote(s)

"And I knew the feeling - I'd spent my whole life pretending the smile on my face was real."

**Excerpt**

“I still don’t know enough about you.”

“You know I am the son of evil. I live in a fortressed city far from here, and I enjoy a good Pinot and fast cars as much as you do. Is there anything else you need to know?”

She seemed pensive for a moment. “Do you have a girlfriend?”

“A girlfriend? No.”

“Then a wife, or anything else?”

“None of the above.” I shook my head. “And if it puts you at ease, it has been longer than I care to admit since I have been with a woman.”

“It doesn’t put me at ease. It means you’re desperate.”

“Desperate? If I were desperate I would have slept with the girl hanging all over me at that dive bar the other night.”

“You hang out at dive bars?”

“It’s the atmosphere that attracts me. I like to blend in. I go there because no one knows me, and no one cares.”

“That sounds kind of sad.” She played with the hem of her pajama shirt.

“It’s no sadder than you turning into a recluse because of what happened to you. They are the ones that should hide. Not you.” I took her chin in my hand. “You should never hide.”

Our eyes locked, and I didn’t think. I leaned in and brushed my lips against hers. She didn’t respond at first, but then she started to move her lips against mine. I sped up the kiss, and she put a hand on my shoulder, pulling me in. I pushed my way into her mouth, wrapping my arms around her waist as I eagerly explored her mouth. I was out of control, I could not think straight. All I was aware of was her sweet taste, and the way her fingers tangled in my hair. I wanted to devour her, experience everything she had to offer, explore the places that no one had explored before. But I couldn’t. Not yet. I forced myself to break the kiss. I stepped back.

She watched me, breathless, and with wide eyes. “You kissed me.”

“You kissed me back.” I smiled. I was as affected as her, but she was not doing a very good job at hiding her reaction.

“I did. I kissed you back, and since we are all about being honest, I want to kiss you again.”

“You can.”

“Now?”

I laughed. “That eager?”

“You ended it too soon.”

It's been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they've given him have been violent and bloody--which is kind of all right with him. Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy's deal might be, but it's a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Release Day Blitz: Six Years By Stephanie Witter

Six Years
By Stephanie Witter

Book Cover By: Jo Raven
Release Day: June 9th
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Length: over 100.000 words
They hadn’t seen each other in six years.

She’d always had a crush on him.

He'd only ever seen her like a little sister.

And now...he’s back.

Brooklyn

I thought that he was a part of a distant past. I thought I didn’t feel anything for him now, but I was not so sure anymore. Having him back in my life, for however long it was, was making me see things differently. So many things had changed in the last six years and somehow I’d lost myself and forgotten all about my dreams.

My home life was still a mess, my personal life was nothing to boast about and when I see how successful he is, how everything he’d always wanted came true, I couldn't help but feel lacking in a lot of ways. But he’s back and he needed me. I knew I was the only one who understood that part of his life, the only one he’s willing to share it with. My heart is still beating too hard and too fast for him and this time around, I was as much an adult as he was.

Having a six year age gap didn't mean shit.

Nolan

Being back in Riverdale was harder than I thought. I’d turned my back on that life, but there had always been that one girl in my head. Little B. Now she’s nothing like the twelve year old girl I’d last seen. She’s a young woman, gorgeous and sexy. I couldn't stay away. There’s something drawing me to her and it goes beyond my need to reconnect with her, to have her back in my life and fill the hollow part of my chest. But I couldn't forget the little girl she had been; I shouldn’t forget the little girl she used to be.

Growing up with a junkie mother and nobody else, my neighbor, Brooklyn, had been my only happy place. I had taken care of her, and when I had left, I had to leave behind a huge part of me. I couldn't do it again. I needed her. Once again, she’s the only person I want in my life, but I wasn’t sure if it was for all the right reasons.

Were there too many obstacles in the way?

**Excerpt**
“That is what you are going to wear?” I asked eyeing Griffin’s light blue t-shirt and dark washed jeans. He looked down at himself then looked at me.

“Why? What’s wrong with it?” he asked.

I narrowed my eyes. I crossed my arms and pressed my lips together. My nose scrunched a little. I looked down. I thought I was the epitome of a stealth mission we were going on. There was a lot of digging in my drawers and closet, but I finally found my black yoga pants and long sleeve shirt. Sure, the shirt was just a pinch too small. It rode up sometimes and the sleeves stopped just before my wrist. Unfortunately, it also stretched over my chest snugly. I saw Griffin take a couple peeks. Sometimes even he was a pig. I was seconds from slapping him. I grabbed the combat boots that I had owned for years and slipped them on.

“You don’t understand covert mission do you?” I muttered as I pulled on my last boot. I looked over at Griffin and he held in his laughter.

“Ass.”

“I heard that.”

“You were meant to,” I said with a smug smile.

Griffin clapped his hands together and I looked over at him. He had a huge smile on his face, the smile I had seen many times in our youth. I was glad for Griff, Liam and Nick. They knew how my childhood wasn’t a happy one so they made sure our childhood was full of adventures. Many of those adventures were not sanctioned by Keith, Isaac, or Rose. Most of the time, they were our secret, though as I got older I began to doubt Isaac hadn’t noticed our antics.

Griffin had the same look on his face as he used to when we would sneak out as children. I held in my own laugh now. It was nice to see the Griffin that I had grown up with, the one that kept me sane for years.

“Alright sir, let’s do this.”

Most of the bedrooms were on the second story of the house. Griffin could make the jump easily enough. I had more strength than a human but I didn’t trust myself not to break or at the very least strain something. I waited for him to go first and Griffin stood outside my window.

“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!” Griffin yell-whispered up to me. I rolled my eyes as I climbed out my window. I was going backwards and I could feel his eyes on my backside. I turned and stuck my tongue out at him.

“Why my prince I didn’t realize you were such a gracious ass.”

“Well when I see one, I see one.”
