My Ramblings: Let's Help Fight Illiteracy!

Hiya My Little Predators!!

Let's Help Fight Illiteracy!

On September 8th of 1966 was celebrated the first International Literacy Day by UNESCO and Grammarly is dedicating this week to raise awareness about this important cause! Acording to Brittney Ross over at Grammarly, "Illiteracy is more than just a lack of reading skills. Around the world, it is a clear predictor of poverty, illness, and disempowerment. It’s not a problem confined to the developing world, either. Even in the United States, there are thirty-two million adults who cannot read, according to the U.S. Department of Education."

It's just so hard to believe that we're in the 21st century and education/literacy still hasn't reached every corner of the world. I personally enjoy reading very much (you can probably tell because I have a whole blog dedicated to books -wink,wink-). I don't know how I'd live in a world where I couldn't comprend something as simple as a newspaper article. Grammarly has made this awesome graphic based on studies by UNESCO Institute for Statistics, U.S. Department Of Education, National Institute Of Literacy that is just as sad as it is eye opening.
