An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.
My Review:
Me and the Mercy Thompson series go way back. It was one of the first series I started reading after I started reading 200-300 paged books. It's also one of the series that I still read and haven't gotten bored out of my mind with.
I love Mercy. She's spunky, not afraid of giving attitude when needed and most importantly, she doesn't let ANYONE stomp their dirty feet all over her. Even Adam (her mate). The one thing that's always bored me is that in EVERY book she simply lucks out in the end and saves the day. During the whole book she seems to have all the pieces, but can only put them together in the end. By end I mean last 10 pages of the book and everything is happy again.
I will admit that in the first few novels I was Team Samuel. Sure, it was stated that it was a doomed relationship and blah, blah, blah. I just couldn't get on board with that. Before I got to know Adam, I preferred Samuel. Heck, I still prefer Samuel, but I guess I'll have to make do with Adam.
Adam is OK. I never really disliked him I just had a soft spot for Samuel. He's a nice guy who protects what's his at ALL costs. I like that personality trait of his. It fits Mercy perfectly C:
Christy was a pain in everyones a**. She's the type of girl who you know wants you dead, but she twists everything around to benefit her and you get left out of the social circle. She had EVERYONE doing her every whim and they all liked making her happy. Even her own daughter couldn't stand up to her.
In the ending, like always, Mercy lucks out and the monster goes right to her. She almost dies and Adam saves the day! Even through all that, I am still looking forward to future Mercy Thompson books to come!

I know what you mean about Adam - he never really 'floated my boat' and I can't even put my finger on why. He's rather 'meh' - but that's just my opinion. Plenty of people adore him.
ReplyDeleteYes! Exactly that! Samuel was the mysterious guy with a past and Adam was just a "regular" shifter.
