My Ramblings: Book Clubs & Me

Book Clubs & Me

Book clubs are fascinating to me. I can't imagine knowing other human beings that the fates have conspired in such a way that live near me and would actually agree to meeting up on a weekly bases to discuss books. The only book discussions in my life happen on the internet. I have yet to meet someone that has a similar love of books that I do in real life.

As much as I've tried getting my friends into some of the more hyped up/mainstream books that I read, they just don't get it. Most don't have time. My response to that is always going to be: "If you want it badly enough, you can make time." To which I receive an eye roll and we move on from the subject.

The idea of a book club is earth shatteringly amazing to me. It gets a little bit trickier for me because I only read books in english and live in Brazil. As much as schools like to obligate students to english classes they don't really learn much for a variety of reasons that I won't get into. So if I want to discuss a book with someone or push them towards a particular book I have to make sure that it's been translated or that that person wants to read it badly enough that they'd try to read it in english (which has never happened).

Book clubs for me seems like a far off dream that, even a few years in the future, may never happen. This blog is the closest thing I have to that and I'm very appreciative towards it.

Have you ever joined a book club?
Is it something that I'm putting on too much of a pedestal?
Let me know in the comments below!

  1. The whole idea of having a group, where you can talk about all the things you loved and hated about a book without worrying about spoilers is something I could totally embrace. I am still holding onto hope, that I will find my tribe and have an IRL book club. They have one at my library, but I don't really want to read any of the books they read. I either need an YA loving adult group or a contemporary romance group, because those are the ones I love.

    1. That sounds so good! I'll continue to hold onto hope for an IRL Book Club in the next decade or so :)
