The Power Of Book Covers: A Necklace of Souls (SoulNecklace Stories #1) By R.L. Stedman

They say don't judge a book by it's movie...err...COVER.
BUT they never said we couldn't PRAISE them.

This week's cover:

A Necklace of Souls
(SoulNecklace Stories #1)
By R.L. Stedman

‘A true dream is when the events I see in my sleep have, or will happen. It’s a talent that runs in my family. I was thirteen when I had my first true dream.’

Dana wishes she wasn’t a princess. She’s always being told how to behave, what to wear. There’s a strangeness in the castle – why will no one talk about the Guardian, or the necklace that protects the land? And why does her father look at her with such sorrow?

Welcome to A Necklace of Souls: a story of love and loss, of shattered lives and desperate hopes. In the Kingdom of the Rose, bravery is not always measured by strength and magic is real, if only one has the courage to dream.

Book Review: Hexed Hearts By Becca Vincenza

Hexed Hearts
By Becca Vincenza

Published: April 19th 2015

Colette had known all her life that she was half human and half werewolf. She had no expectations of a life filled with love and adventure.

Everything changed on her 21st birthday. A curse casted by witches centuries ago set things in motion, things she could have never imagined. A past that Colette has no clue about has come back to steal her away.

When Hunter, her destined but very unexpected mate, arrives, she is at a complete loss. She must learn to forget an old love and how to make room for a new love.

The curse is being recast and Colette must stop it in order to save the wolves, all the while finding who she really is.

My Review:

I both loved and disliked various aspects of this novel. Over all it was an awesome story, but it didn't feel like a polished diamond. I'd describe this novel as a diamond in the rough.

I'm not usually a grammar freak, but this novel pushed me to the cliffs edge. When I look back on my notes on my iPad it feels like I was editing the book instead of just reading it. In my personal opinion, I think this would have gone over better as a duology instead of a full length book. At one point in the story I felt a whole other massive storyline be introduced and before it became interesting I had to fight myself to not give up on this book.

I loved certain things about Hunter. He was caring, loyal to a fault, loved his personal space and his privacy. I didn't like the all around hot and cold relationship he and Colette had going on, but I persevered trough it. Story wise, I was not disappointed.

Colette was a really nice character to get to know. She's the tortured turned strong heroine that I love so much. It was really amazing to see her progress from victim to strong almost alpha female. The story starts off very dark while she's in captivity. She forms a bond with Griffin and it only gets more complicated as the story progresses.

Conclusion: This story was amazing, but it needs a few more rounds of editing. I'd love to re-read this if it ever gets re-edited. I usually am not a fan of re-reading, but I think this book is worth it.

P.S. Those bonus chapter's in Hunter's point of view were amazing! I'd definitely be interested in a novella in his point of view after the happily ever after.

Favorite Quotes:

"Now my spontaneous self needs to go be spontaneous elsewhere."

"He had me heart, body, soul, and wolf."

"[...] if I don't come out in the next five minutes, the dress ate me."

Preface

I had no real choice. Only one answer was acceptable, yet giving it meant losing everything and anything I cared about. It meant losing Owen, and it meant losing myself.

"Daisy?" Owen looked deep into my eyes.

"I love you." I didn't think, I didn't question. I crushed my lips against his, needing to soak up his taste and feel. He responded immediately, deepening the kiss as he wrapped me up in his arms.

Always and forever. Our promised words swirled through my head. Promised words that couldn't possibly be true. But in that moment it didn't matter. The truth couldn't hurt us. Only time could.

Book Review: Fighting Shadows By Aly Martinez

Fighting Shadows
(On the Ropes #2)
By Aly Martinez

Length: 327 pages
Published: July 7th 2015

I come from a family of fighters. I always thought I’d follow in their shadows, becoming unstoppable in the ring. That changed the day I saved the life of a woman I loved, but could never have.

My brother hailed me as a hero, and my reward was a wheelchair.

Paralyzed, my life became an inescapable nightmare.

Until I met her.

Ash Mabie had a heart-stopping smile and a laugh that numbed the rage and resentment brewing inside of me. She showed me that even the darkest night still had stars, and it didn’t matter one bit that you had to lie in the weeds to see them.

I was a jaded asshole who fell for a girl with a knack for running away. I couldn’t even walk but I would have spent a lifetime chasing her.

Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting the shadows of our past.
Fighting to reclaim my future.
Fighting for her.

My Review:

I was expecting so much from this sequel. I ecstatic that it didn't let me down. This series shows you that even if your down on your luck (be it money wise, family wise, or love in general wise) it can and will get better if you pick yourself up and keep going at it. Flint's story was very inspirational.

In the first book Flint seemed like a laid back, intelligent, and very worldly person. When we meet him again in this book he's broken. He's become a shadow of what he used to be and it takes him meeting Ash to start fighting for his life again.

Ash is the young, weird, silly and all around out going person. Though judging from the way her life is you'd never say those exact words about her personality without talking to her. She breaks Flint's walls and for a few minutes at a time she actually brings the old Flint out.

This was an amazing story with a happily ever after for Flint and Ash. The book does leave off with a bit of a cliffhanger when referring to Quarry. Sad as that may be, I look forward to accompanying Quarry on his way to his happy ending as well.

My Favorite Quotes:

"[...] I fell in love with a girl who changed my life by showing me that even the darkest nights still had stars and it didn't matter one bit that you had to lie in the weeds to see them."

"As far as I was concerned, fairytales were real and love only came once in a lifetime, and I had just used mine on a boy who had already given his to another girl."

"Flint, don't get so caught up on the shadow that you forget the man who casts it. You might not be able to walk, but that's the extent of your disability."

"But you know what? Problems don't need a map. They'll follow you everywhere. You can't hide forever, Flint."

The Power Of Book Covers: Burnt Devotion (Imdalind #5) By Rebecca Ethington

They say don't judge a book by it's movie...err...COVER.
BUT they never said we couldn't PRAISE them.

This week's cover:

Burnt Devotion
(Imdalind #5)
By Rebecca Ethington

Released: March 22nd 2015

It was supposed to be the final battle, the one to end Edmund’s line, his life, and free the magic Edmund had taken from the world. That was how it was foreseen. The end of the battle that has raged for centuries, unbeknownst to the mortals around them, the battle that would end with Joclyn’s death.

But it did neither.

The battle still reigns, Joclyn still lives, and the sight that was given eight hundred years ago is broken.

And it’s not the only one.

Sights that were once thought infallible have become nothing more than scattered glass, with broken pieces shattering into incorrect visages. Sain clings to the magic that he knows to be true, but there is something else, something that he is not saying. And what he does say is no longer adding up.

Something is wrong.

Ilyan and his people move through the caves, following a sight they hope to be correct, fleeing a battle that should have been the end while the battle within each of them grows with each step.

Ryland fights the monsters his father has infected him with.

Wynifred fights the confusion of who she is.

Dramin fights to live.

Prague may not survive this battle, it may be ripped to shreds… or burned to ashes.

My Review:

For some strange reason I have mixed feelings for this book. On one hand it was great, but on the other I felt like it disrespected women. I was almost suffocating from the stink of alpha males coming off the pages. I understand it's a biker novel and that that goes hand in hand, but would it kill someone to dial it down a bit? Also, the book kept repeating how big and good looking EVERYONE was, by the end I was skimming through.

I started out not caring for who Arrow was, then I started liking him and finally I ended up disliking him. For someone who claims to love Anna he has a funny way of showing it. I know he's a biker (which apparently equals almost no emotion whatsoever), so I can't expect any emotion out of him. Well my response to that is: sue me! I'd rather read fiction.

Anna had a backbone with everyone except Arrow. She dealt with her brother, her friends, the weird and barely mentioned guy friend at college, but when it came to Arrow with another woman on his lap she just made it clear that she saw what he did and ran to her room.

Onto things that I liked in this book: the pacing of the story was awesome, Anna's backbone, the Anna situation (in the beginning) was intense and ended up serving a purpose by the end and the ending scene where all is right in the world once more.

Favorite Quotes:

"I want a partner, not someone who thinks he can control me."

"If they hurt you, they die. Painfully."
