Release Day Blitz: Malik (Carter Brothers #1) By Lisa Helen Gray

Malik
(Carter Brothers #1)
By Lisa Helen Gray

Release Date: May 30th 2015
I’m Harlow Evans. Shortly after my parents were murdered I moved in with my Grandma.
It meant switching schools, losing friends, and moving away from the only home I knew. All I wanted was to finish the school year hassle free.

Switching seats on that first day altered my life. After surviving the loss of my parents I never thought anything could break me, but then HE came into my life....

He wants to hurt me
Destroy me
Ruin me

Tragedy brought me here, and a cruel twist of fate has me desperate to leave. There's also someone here that has me fighting to stay though.

All my life I’ve lived in the shadows, trying to go unnoticed, until I met HIM....

Malik Carter....

He’s broody, quiet, and holding on to a dark past. From that first meeting I was drawn to him, his painfully gorgeous looks and model physique, but I also knew he was totally out of my league.

He's the boy next door who, with his domineering personality, has somehow etched his way into my life.

When the Carter Brothers take it upon themselves to protect me from what’s coming, I’m not sure whether to be relieved or shocked.

You see, when a Carter brother loves, they love fiercely, strongly and protectively. No one can get in their way. They’re also used to getting what they want, even if it means getting hurt.

There’s one thing you should know about the Carter brothers before you read my story....
If you mess with one, you mess with them all.

Lisa Helen Gray (1987) born in Birmingham. All Lisa has ever wanted to do in life, apart from be a mother, is to read and write, and at a certain age she wanted to be a princess. We can all dream, right?

Serious note though, she has been a passionate reader ever since her Nan first handed her The Three Gollywogs by Enid Blyton. After that, she lived in a land of fantasy.

First came Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then Angel, and it went on to Twilight and The Hunger Games. Some would say she is a daydreamer, but she is just a firm believer that there is a happily ever after. Hence, her huge love of romance novels.

She got into reviewing other author’s novels, and then decided to publish her own work. Bringing us to her first novel, If I could I'd wish it all away (2014).

She always has her head stuck in a romance novel and is often (too often) reminded of this. When she hasn't got her head stuck in a book or writing her next novel, she is glued to the TV series Pretty Little Liars, walking dead, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries and of course, Veronica Mars. Just an ordinary girl surround by extraordinary books

**Excerpt**

“You never answered my question. What are you doing down here so late?”

Those bright blue eyes sear into me as he takes a step back. “I have to go.”

His sudden evasiveness makes me suspicious, so when he starts to move past me, I sidestep into his path. “Excuse me,” I say, “but this is a secure level. Are you even authorized to be down here?”

“My dad,” he says, scowling at me. “He’s a security guard.”

A security guard? The facility might be so big that I can’t keep track of everyone who works in every lab, but I know all the guards by name. Especially the night guards, since I’m usually the last one here.

Travis and Luther are on duty tonight. Travis and his wife just had their first baby, a girl named Tia. Luther is old enough to be my great-grandfather and he never married.

I take half a step back as my suspicions turn to concern. “Who’s your dad?” I demand.

This guy definitely has the look of a villain.

What if he really is one?

He glances nervously over his shoulder. “He’s—”

I shake my head and start to walk away before he can finish the lie.

He reaches for me, but I shrug him off. My heart is beating way too fast. This could go way bad, way quick.

“Please, just listen.” He waits until I’m looking him in the eye before he continues. “You know me,” he says, his voice taking on this weird, hypnotic tone. “We’ve met before.”

His eyes start to burn brighter and brighter. Oh crap. He must be a villain, and one with a psy power. The vilest kind. Fear and anger collide inside me as I wonder what to do about him trying to mess with my head. How to play this? I can’t exactly tell him I’m—

Suddenly, the floor beneath my feet shudders violently, knocking me off balance. I lurch forward into Dark-and-Scowly’s arms. He catches me, grabs my upper arms, just as a concussion wave of air and sound hits us.

That sounded—and felt—like a bomb went off in the lab. If we weren’t a hundred feet underground and shielded by every protection science and superheroes can create, I’d think the supervillain Quake had struck. But that’s impossible.

Then again, impossible doesn’t always apply in the superhero world. After all, impossible didn’t keep Dark-and-Scowly from being where he doesn’t belong.

Suddenly, every alarm in the facility blares. I freak. The lab! All that research—Mom’s and mine—is priceless. The superhero blood samples alone are more valuable than anything else in the building.

Panic overrides judgment and I push away, but his grip only tightens. The jerk. A little super strength would be really useful right now.

“You can’t go in there.”

“Who are you?” I demand, struggling to get out of his grasp. If he really is a villain, I don’t want him near me or this lab. Not with what villains are capable of. “What have you done?”

He doesn’t answer. More pissed than ever, I fake left and pull right. He follows my fake-out, and as his hair swings with the momentum, I see the mark I’d been looking for earlier. Not under his right ear like the superheroes. Under his left.

Shit.

“You’re a villain.”

My Review:

I love an abused heroine turned strong and fearless, so when I read the synopsis of this book I was sure this was going to make it to my top 10 of best books read this year. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. Don't get me wrong, this was a nice overall book, but something kept me from truly connecting with the characters and the plot.

Ophelia was a nice character. She was hot and cold sometimes and everything came way to easily to her, but I could deal because she's the hero and all that jazz. Other then that she wasn't that riveting to start with. Bad things just loved to happen to her because of a serious spoiler that I will not be giving. When you finally find out the why, EVERYTHING suddenly clicks into place. Too bad I wasn't as invested in the story when the other shoe finally dropped.

On to the love interests: Truth be told, I was fond of either one. Which, considering what happened, is good because both proved to be true jack***s by the end. As surprising as that was I was shouting girl power all the way!

Favorite Quotes:

"He seems to care about my wellbeing and me as a  person, not just as some tool that may be used in the future, but as someone that wants me in his life."

"[Love unrequited] That kind of love doesn't make fools of us, it morphs us into completely different people than the ones we were before. It pulls away our morals; it strips away our ability to reason, all the while dressing us up to think that the outcome will be worth the price."

"You want a hero, right? Someone who will come around and give you everything you've dreamt of, take you and show you the way so you don't have to find it on your own feet [...]? You're looking for those things in the wrong person."

Movie Review: Cinderella (2015)

Cinderella
(2015)

A girl named Ella (Cinderella) has the purest heart living in a cruel world filled with evil stepsisters and an evil stepmother out to ruin Ella's life. Ella comes one with her pure heart when she meets the prince and dances her way to a better life with glass shoes and a little help from her fairy godmother of course.
| IMDb |

My Review:

This movie was SO cute! The story was a bit off when compared to the original, but I was happy to discover that there were no cheesy musical pieces during the movie! That was the best part. The cover of this movie is even more awesome now that I saw that that dress actually exists and that photoshop isn't wholly responsible for how it looks.

The prince (Richard Madden) looked exactly like his animated counter part, though he seemed a little too old in the face to date, let alone marry (what I assume to be), an 18 year old girl. I could see the youth and naiveté of Ella (Lily James). Even though she's well into her twenties, which was a surprise when I looked up her other productions. The Step Mother and Sister's don't really need to be mentioned. They were an annoying presence the entire film.

Even though the movie was a little over an hour and thirty minutes long, it felt a little rushed. I barely got to see the ball and gawk at all the amazing victorian era dresses that were being showed off.

I discovered her last year when I picked up the first book in her Supernatural series! I also have won a signed paperback of that every same book and proudly display it on my small, but growing collection of books!

I discovered her during a review blog tour and decided to give her Veil series a chance. Which I don't regret! It's an awesome series (which has just ended, unfortunately...BUT there's a SPIN-OFF!). I also have won a signed paperback of the first book in the Veil series, which looks AWESOME on my shelf C:

I loved her Seven series and look forward to one day taking a picture and meeting her! Her stories are getting more and more intricate with ever novel she writes. I also won a signed paperback copy of the first book in her Seven series C:

I've been reading books by this author since I was 13 years old. I've read/finished various series by her. I've love to one day meet her and get a signed book out if it.

I LOVED her Imdalind series and have been a fan ever since. I would love to actually meet her in person!

I have also been reading books by this author since I was 13 years old. Everything this woman rights I must read (even if it's not my genre of preference).

I love her earlier novels. I went through a phase that I had to read everything this woman wrote. It has died down, but I will always want a signed book or fan t-shirt!

I loved her Denazen series, so because of that one series I need to meet this woman and beg her to write faster! ....& get a signed book of course C:

I loved her Significance series and I would love to meet her in person!

I loved her Altered series when I was younger and have recently re-read it and it was just as good as I remember it being. I would love a signed paperback of book #1 Altered!

Do you agree with my picks? Would you switch out anyone?
Tell me in the comments below! C:
