The Power Of Book Covers: Predator By Janice Gable Bashman

They say don't judge a book by it's movie...err...COVER.
BUT they never said we couldn't PRAISE them.

This week's cover:

Predator
By Janice Gable Bashman

Expected Publication: October 4th 2014
Publisher: Month9Books

"Predator is a fast-paced, creepy page-turner! Bashman had me at the opening sentence and she's still got me. I want more!"
Nancy Holder, New York Times Bestselling Author, The Rules

The hunt is on!

Sixteen-year-old Bree Sunderland must inject herself with an untested version of her father’s gene therapy to become a werewolf in order to stop a corrupt group of mercenaries from creating a team of unstoppable lycanthrope soldiers.

When Bree went with her scientist father to Ireland, she thought it would be a vacation to study bog bodies. She never expected to fall in love with a mysterious young Irishman and certainly never expected to become the kind of monster her father said only existed in nightmares. Dr. Sunderland discovers that lycanthropy was not a supernatural curse but rather a genetic mutation. When they return home, her dad continues his research, but the military wants to turn that research into a bio weapons program and rogue soldiers want to steal the research to turn themselves into unstoppable killing machines.

Bree’s boyfriend Liam surprises her with a visit to the United States, but there are darker surprises in store for both of them. As evil forces hunt those she loves, Bree must become an even more dangerous hunter to save them all.

Predator gives the werewolf legend a couple of new spins by introducing the Benandanti (an actual folkloric belief that certain families of Italy and Livonia were werewolves who fought against evil), as well as a modern scientific approach to mutation and the science of transgenics.

Cover Reveal: Cinder & Ella By Kelly Oram

Cinder & Ella
By Kelly Oram

Expected Publication: October 1st 2014

It’s been almost a year since eighteen-year-old Ella Rodriguez was in a car accident that left her crippled, scarred, and without a mother. After a very difficult recovery, she’s been uprooted across the country and forced into the custody of a father that abandoned her when she was a young child. If Ella wants to escape her father’s home and her awful new stepfamily, she must convince her doctors that she’s capable, both physically and emotionally, of living on her own. The problem is, she’s not ready yet. The only way she can think of to start healing is by reconnecting with the one person left in the world who’s ever meant anything to her—her anonymous Internet best friend, Cinder.

Hollywood sensation Brian Oliver has a reputation for being trouble. There’s major buzz around his performance in his upcoming film The Druid Prince, but his management team says he won’t make the transition from teen heartthrob to serious A-list actor unless he can prove he’s left his wild days behind and become a mature adult. In order to douse the flames on Brian’s bad-boy reputation, his management stages a fake engagement for him to his co-star Kaylee. Brian isn’t thrilled with the arrangement—or his fake fiancĂ©e—but decides he’ll suffer through it if it means he’ll get an Oscar nomination. Then a surprise email from an old Internet friend changes everything.

**Excerpt**

“You do have someone who cares,” he said softly. “No matter how bad things are at home or at school or whatever, you have me. You’re my best friend, too. You have my number now. Save it in your phone and call it anytime—day, night, the witching hour—it doesn’t matter. Okay?”

It took me a moment—and a series of deep breaths—before I could respond. “Okay.”

“Promise?”

“I promise. As long as I always have you, I’ll be fine.” I kicked myself internally and laughed.“Wow, that sounded really cheesy. You see? That’s why I didn’t want to call you. I can filter my stupid mouth so much better when I have to type out my thoughts.”

Cinder laughed again. “Ah, but then you would miss out on all the sweet nothings I plan to whisper in your ear now that I know how much you like my ultra-sexy voice.”

I blushed but refused to let him know that his flirting rattled me. “I never said ultra, you egomaniac. But you should definitely consider recording audiobooks for a living.”

“Hmm. That’s not a bad idea.” Cinder’s voice dropped to that slow, seductive purr again as he asked, “Would you like me to read to you, Ellamara?”

I thrilled at the thought and couldn’t quite mask my excitement. “Seriously?”

“Why not? Before you called, I was getting ready to have a Top Gear marathon all by my lonesome.”

“You are such a liar. Tonight is Friday night, and it’s Halloween. There is no way you don’t have plans.”

“I don’t have important ones. It’s just a stupid party that my sort-of girlfriend wants me to go to.”

“Your ‘sort-of’ girlfriend?”

“Yeah.” Cinder stretched the word out in a long breath. “It’s a long story, but I’m not that into her. I’d much rather stay home and read with you. Besides, I can’t hang up on you when you’ve had the worst day ever. What kind of best friend would that make me?”

I almost cried again. The offer was so sweet. And thoughtful. Reading was a passion Cinder and I shared. We read and discussed books all the time. We’d even decided to read the same book at the same time before, but we’d never read one together. Cinder had to know how much that would mean to me.

“It has to be The Druid Prince,” I said.

Cinder laughed. “It’s already in my hands.”

Audio Book Review: Full Blooded By Amanda Carlson

Full Blooded
(Jessica McClain #1)
By Amanda Carlson

Length: 11 hrs and 28 mins
Narrated By: Casey Holloway

Born the only female in an all male race, Jessica McClain isn’t just different—she’s feared.
After living under the radar for the last twenty-six years, Jessica is thrust unexpectedly into her first change, a full ten years late. She wakes up and finds she’s in the middle of a storm. Now that she’s become the only female full-blooded werewolf in town, the supernatural world is already clamoring to take a bite out of her and her new Pack must rise up and protect her.

But not everyone is on board. The werewolf Rights of Laws is missing text and the superstitious werewolves think that Jessica means an end to their race. It doesn’t help when Jessica begins to realize she’s more. She can change partway and hold her form, and speak directly to her wolf. But the biggest complication by far is that her alpha father can't control her like he can the rest of his wolves.

When a mercenary who’s been hired by the vampires shows up to extract information about the newly turned werewolf only days after her change, they find themselves smack in the middle of a war and there's no choice but to run together. When it’s up to Jessica to negotiate her release against her father’s direct orders, she chooses to take an offer for help instead. In exchange, Jessica must now swear an oath she may end up repaying with her life.

My Review:

* This is a review of the audio book.

I'm back in all my glory with my re-reading funk! So I read this book way back when it first released (ahem..2012). I remember both loving and dreading the ending. It's what made me mark Book #2 on my calendar for the following year. The problem started there.

When I finally picked up Book #2 I wasn't that into it anymore. Why, you ask? Well, it was a VERY emotional end and with a dash of a cliffhanger. I remembered the cliffhanger, but I just didn't care enough about the characters at the moment to actually put in some effort into getting more then a few chapters into book #2. I wanted to relish in my audio book frenzy and re-read/listen to series I started, but gave up on because of the almost one year gap to the following book.

I particularly love this book because of how the author portrays the society. Even though it's male dominated she still manages to create a heroine strong enough to understand it, but not submit to it. I loved the backbone that Jessica had. It's what made her an awesome heroine in my opinion. From the plot line, it seemed like karma/author didn't want Jessica happy. When it looked like things were looking up you could (being a werewolf story) almost smell karma/the author about to hit.

Rouke was fierce, loyal and fought for what he believed in. I'm still SUPER curious as to what kind of animal he is. Everyone (in the story) kept mentioning cat, but I'm not so sure. It was pure coincidence that what happened between Jessica and him happened and it was an AWESOME plot twist.

The ending was both horrific and elating. I saw something coming, but it definitely wasn't what happened. You will not guess the ending because it goes into a whole other direction then what you're expecting. I loved how original it felt. I can't wait to see what happens when she needs to fulfill the vow and what the Queen really has in mind.

The Audio Book:
I liked the Casey Holloway's voice. Though, to me, all the male characters sounded distinctly female. I kept laughing so hard when she would say "Rouke said in a low voice" and continued on with an almost girly tone. I got through it though. By the end I wasn't even noticing it anymore.

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Authors I Would Recommend Books From

Hiya My Little Predators!!

Welcome back to the Top Ten Tuesday meme!!

It's a weekly feature created By The Broke and the Bookish!

This Week's Topic:

Ten Authors I
Own The Most Books From
Would Recommend Books From

I've switched up this weeks topic because of laziness. Yes, you caught me red handed. Let me explain my reason: I have over 450+ ebooks downloaded on my Kindle App and I have no intention in going through ALL of them and counting down how many books written by X authors I have. So I'll list below the authors that I recommend and that I have read 3+ books from.

*The following authors listed below are in no particular order.

1. Jessica Sorensen

I had a phase where I read ANYTHING this women released. It has gotten toned down over the years, but the books I remember reading by her, in my 13-14 year old mind, were pure genius. I recommend her Fallen Star Series, Fallen Souls Series, Darkness Falls Trilogy and the Death Collectors Series.

2. Jennifer Armentrout

I will read anything this women writes, period. It's that simple. Nuff said.
| Dark Elements Series | Lux Series |

3. Rebecca Ethington

I LOVE her Kiss Of Fire Series!! Since a lot of her work seems to end in cliffhangers I'm going to wait her finish releasing the new book series she's writing for me to start reading. Cliffhangers are not my friend C:

4. Dannika Dark

(No picture available)

I love her Seven Series! I've also tried the audio book of her Mageri Series, but the woman's voice seems too old to me. So I'm going to trying reading it the old fashioned way soon. I've heard a lot of good things about it too.

5. Patricia Briggs

Ever since I was 13 years old I have loved her Mercy Thompson Series. Later on I fell in love again with her Alpha & Omega Series and the comic books on the Mercy Thompson Series are SO cool!

6. Abbi Glines

There was a time I'd recommend everything this woman wrote. Not so much anymore though. Sure her books are entertaining enough, but they have lost their WOW factor. I particularly would recommend Fallen Too Far (only book #1), Bad For You (Sea Breeze #7), the full Existence Trilogy and the Perfection and Chance 2 book mini series.

7. Jeaniene Frost

I love every book this woman has written to this day. This includes the Night Huntress Series, the Night Huntress World Spin-Off and Night Prince. I adore the world she has created C:

8. Jus Accardo

I recommend her Denazen Series, Eternal Balance Series and the stand alone that recently released called Rules Of Survival. Though her books take forever to release (Hehe...) I adore them C:

9. Mari Mancusi

I like her Blood Coven Series and her recently started dragon series called Scorched. All her books (that I have read) has almost a middle grade feel to it and I guess I got used to it because I usually dislike MG books.
| Blood Coven Series | Scorched Series |

10. Jenna Black

I got to know her with her Faeriewalker Series and have been a fan ever since! I have enjoyed her Morgan Kingsley Series and her Nikki Glass series! I actually won (from the author herself and it's SIGNED OMG!) the new revamped version of Book #1 in her Guardians Of The Night Series which I plan to read in the near future!

Do you agree with my picks?
Would you add or remove a certain author?
Do you have any recommendations for
me regarding future books or authors?

**Excerpt**

As the men dispersed, a warm feeling slid over my body when I looked up at Jericho. His eyes were hooded and low, but when he melted me with a possessive gaze, my feet cemented to the floor.

He moved toward me with the grace of a panther—slow and predatory. The external noise from the bar faded away, and all I heard were his silken words as he caressed the ends of my hair, looking at it between his fingers.

“You haven’t changed,” he said in quiet words.

“What do you mean by that?”

Jericho bent down and his mouth brushed against my ear. “Still sexy as sin and making me protect you.”

Goose bumps erupted over my arms. “No one said you had to protect me. I’m not the shy girl you once knew.” My heart raced. The inflection in my tone wasn't as harsh as I’d planned it to be, my words breathy and unsure.

His warm body pressed against mine and when I stepped back, I bumped into a wooden post that pinned me to him. Tingles raced through my body uncontrollably, and I lost the ability to think rationally when I smelled his cologne. Men never had this kind of effect on me. His power slid down my body like hands against my naked flesh.

Jericho had a smile that aroused, and combined with his voice, it became an aphrodisiac.

Or maybe it was the way his callused fingers lightly stroked the back of my neck, as if I were an instrument. As he played me, memories flooded my mind, and I shoved him away, panting and trembling.

Jericho worked his jaw in a frustrated manner, his brows slanting down with a look of disbelief. He shook his head and then backed up.

A brunette appeared out of nowhere in a revealing top that displayed her breasts like cookies in a bakery: warm, tempting, and something you’d regret later.

“How’s my sexy man?” she asked, tucking her fingers possessively in his jeans and nipping on his arm. “You want to go have some fun?”

His eyes stayed locked on mine as he circled his arm around her waist and pulled her against him. She moaned playfully as he squeezed her hip, testing if I had my temper under control.

So I played his game.

“Can I get you a drink, honey?” I asked her. “Maybe some milk in a dish?”

Sometimes I could spot the cats. It was all in the purr and the way they slinked their bodies.

“No, thanks,” she replied. “I have something else in mind I want to put in my mouth.”

When she stroked his crotch, I blinked in surprise. Not just because she had the audacity to do that in front of me, but the fact that Jericho tilted his head and gave me a “so what?” look.

So what?

Maybe he was right. All that connected us were five amazing years, and that was a lifetime ago. Seeing him made me raw again. Those feelings caught up with me like a shadow that had never let go. Part of me wanted to squeeze him tight and tell him how much I’d missed him—because I had. Jericho had shown me the private side of himself he never gave to others, and I’d done the same for him. Another part of me wanted to hate him for the anguish he’d put me through. And yet, I couldn't help but feel elated knowing that despite his insolence, Jericho wasn't lying in a grave as I’d imagined. He’d somehow assembled his life into something meaningful and gotten a grip on his demons.

Meanwhile, my demons were currently on the rampage and waving pitchforks.

So I said cutting words that hurt because I meant them, and yet I didn't.

“I wish I’d never met you.”

About the Author:

This is the segment where you learn a little more about who I am, so here's what I can tell you: I drink copious amounts of vitamin water placed precariously close to my laptop while writing. These are two healthy habits I have no intention of breaking. I'm a transplant living in the south, but I was born in the 70's to a military dad who moved us around the world.
When I'm not writing (which is all the time), I'm hunting down Indie music, watching movies, reading, eating Tex-Mex, discovering new ways to humiliate myself bowling, and burning up my laptop battery on the Internet. I have a relaxed, easy-going personality and don't like drama. I live with a cat who thinks she is a dog, or a goat (she eats plastic, so I'm not sure which).

Throughout my life, I've had insomnia. Counting sheep never worked and eventually I would imagine those sheep were the sole source of food after an apocalyptic battle where only thousands survived. I made up stories in a futile attempt to bore myself to sleep. The problem was, I got so wrapped up in my "head stories" that I would continue them through the following nights, changing it up each time to make it more exciting. Eventually, I started writing my ideas down - creating short stories, and then I discovered my love for poetry.

It's almost embarrassing how many spiral notebooks and stacks of paper I have of poetry and lyrics.

Another passion: digital art. I design all my book covers, marketing, and series art. I'm a very visual person and pursued photography as an avid hobby for many years.

I am not a YA author (I feel like I have to state this only because I've had a few people ask), but I think it's wonderful there are so many books available to teens in Urban Fantasy and Paranormal.

I am finally doing what I have always wanted to do: giving my characters a pulse through writing full time. I focus on adult urban fantasy romance, but I don't like labels and I enjoy blending genres to break out of the confines of predictability.

But it's what I love to do.

Guardians: The Girl
By Lola St. Vil

Published: January 9th 2012

******OVER 400 FIVE STAR REVIEWS!*******
Sitting there in the car, a part of me bitterly resented what she was doing to me. I knew it wasn’t her fault. But does she have to be so... alluring? I need to focus on something else besides the spot between her earlobe and neck. It looked so soft. Her lips were slightly parted as she looked out the window. I wanted to part them further with mine. I put both my hands on the steering wheel. I could not allow myself to let go until she was out of the car. Suddenly she leaned in and kissed me. It was far better than I could even begin to explain to you. I've fought and died a slow and painful death on earth. And nothing, NOTHING can compare to how hard it was for me to pull away from her lips. I don't think any angel could do it twice in a lifetime...

“Go to hell!” I cry out. Who the heck said that? I realize it’s me. I guess I’m more than in pain, I’m fighting mad. Well, verbally at least.

Agony shrugs his shoulders and says, “Okay, we’ll do it the hard way”

He raises his hand a final time and snaps off my finger...

The Power Of Book Covers: Perfect Opposite By Zoya Tessi

They say don't judge a book by it's movie...err...COVER.
BUT they never said we couldn't PRAISE them.

This week's cover:

Perfect Opposite
By Zoya Tessi

Released: May 18th 2014

Their wishes were simple and modest. Fate had other things in store though, and she can be a real bitch sometimes.
- All he wanted was to get the job done and somehow to endure those long months playing nanny to a spoiled little rich girl. Without strangling her with his bare hands in the process. Well, it is going to be much easier said than done.

- All she wanted was to escape the past and live like any other nineteen-year-old girl. Her plan definitely didn’t include the arrogant, tattooed savage, with his awful mohawk hair and lack of social graces, whose only mission was to stick real close and mess up her life.

But, people aren't always what they seem to be, are they?

Before she can fully recover, Meridian is told that she's a danger to her family and hustled off to her great-aunts house in Revelation, Colorado. My Review:

* This is a review from the audio book.

I'm in a mood. I've been re-reading (which I NEVER do unless it's an EPIC book) too much lately. It seems that I'm out to prove to myself that the books that I read when I was 12-15 years old are actually still good books. It helps that I don't remember much detail in the stories. At that age, I went through a phase where I read 5-6 books a week. So to say I remember very little is saying a lot.

This is a old favorite of mine. It was one of the first paranormal books I picked up. It's still pretty good, though now I see a few holes that I missed while speed reading a few years ago. This is also one of the few books that I don't mind the insta-love. I'm not crazy about it, but I guess I understand where the characters are coming from.

Meridian was an outcast. She was the the weird girl who preferred being alone and away from everybody because she made the mistake of telling one "friend" that things died around her when she was in kindergarden. Her life was miserable and lonely. Even her parents shied away from her. The only bright spot was her little brother (Sammy). After the scare and she gets to her aunt's house things start looking up. She meets Tens, starts learning what she is and how to deal and become better.

Tens is still swoon worthy. He's so sweet, and caring and protective and...
OK let's stop that run on sentence. Let's just say I'm on his side and leave it at that.

Something that ticked me off was the lack of information her aunt would deal to her. Meridian is there for a purpose. It's not a vacation. It's to learn to deal and help with the bad guys (which I don't know how to spell). Her aunt came off as this all knowing deity, but was reluctant to actually dish it out. Also, I like to know what the character's are wearing now and then. Otherwise I end up imagining them in the last outfit mentioned (which is almost always PJ's).

The ending was still a surprise to me. I didn't actually remember what happened. Just that Custos (I'm pretty sure I spelled that wrong. Darn you audio book!) somehow saves the day. I don't know if I'll continue onto book #2. I understand that it's in dual POV (not with Tens...-sigh-, but with another Fenestra (Ana?)). I'm not sure I want to relive her story.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Characters I Would Want With Me On A Deserted Island

Hiya My Little Predators!!

Welcome back to the Top Ten Tuesday meme!!

It's a weekly feature created By The Broke and the Bookish!

This Week's Topic:

Top Ten Characters I Would Want With Me On A Deserted Island

I can't stand books on survival or lost on an island type story lines so the following character's were chosen by based on hotness C:

P.S. I'm not shallow! I promise...Then again if I were that's exactly what I'd say...
OH never mind C:
Just continue to the list below...hehe

*The following characters listed below are in no particular order.
* Covers linked to Goodreads.

1. Kale from Touch (Denazen #1) By Jus Accardo
He has the power of killing everything that touches him (weather he wants to or not....let's hope I'm an exception). So if any creature attacks us on this island all he's have to do is touch it to neutralize it as a threat.

2. Crispin (AKA Bones) from the Night Huntress Series By Jeaniene Frost

He's an old as dirt vampire and probably has a clue on how to survive in the wild. At least, I hope he has a clue because I certainly don't....

3. Charles (Spade) from First Drop Of Crimson (Night Huntress Spin-Off) By Jeaniene Frost

Again, he's an old as dirt vampire. He's survived wars, and medieval jails. I, again, hope he has a clue on how to survive an island.

4. Reno from Six Months (Seven #2) By Dannika Dark

He's a werewolf and loves to run around in the forest behind his house. I can safely assume he knows a thing or two about surviving in the wild. If he doesn't then his wolf will. I think I'll be nice and as comfortable as I can be with Reno.

5. Alex from Branded By Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki

He lives in an post apocalyptic world and guards the sinners. He's had to srunge up food and deal with threats. I think he'd help me survive in an island.

6. Astley from the Need Series By Carrie Jones

He's the Pixie King for Christ's sake. You assume he has mad survival skills if he's managed to keep his position as king all this time. I just hope it includes how to survive in the wilderness on a deserted island...

7. Rouke from the Jessica McClain Series By Amanda Carlson

I ended up disliking the series as a whole, but I love Rouke! He's an ancient semi-immortal. We can assume he's survived wars, plagues and an apocalypse or two. I think we're safest with him C;

8. Samuel from the Mercy Thompson Series By Patricia Briggs

He's a werewolf that has been on the edge for a long time. He can't find love and his wolf is almost going crazy because of everything he has survived. He's almost as old as Bran (the Alpha) so that's saying something. I think I'd have a fair chance of either surviving the island or getting eaten. Which ever comes first C:

9. Tens from the Fenestra Series By Amber Kizer

He's been on the street since he was young. The only person he's ever considered a parent has died and he knows how to survive on his own and hope of a better future. I'd survive if I could bring him along!

10. Daemon from the Lux Series By Jennifer Armentrout

He's an alien and hot. Other then that I'm not sure he'd be of much use. Sure he glows in the dark and even though I'm terrified by the dark, I'm not sure how we'd survive. I guess he could throw fire/energy (?) balls to kill creatures for food and drop a coconut or two....

Then again, he seems like a nice choice considering C:

Do you agree with my picks? Would you switch out character's? Do you have any recommendations for me regarding survival savvy guys and a good book? Feel free to comment below C:
