Simple Perfection
(Perfection #2)
By Abbi Glines

Published: September 23rd 2013

Woods had his perfect life mapped out for him. Rise up the ranks of the family business. Marry the rich girl of his parents’ dreams. Pretend that wealth and privilege was all he’d ever wanted. Woods is ready and willing to sacrifice everything for her when the sudden death of his father leaves him with his mother to care for and a business to manage.

Della is determined to be strong for Woods, even as she’s quietly falling to pieces. No matter how far from home she’s run, the ghosts of her past have never stopped haunting her. Struggling to hide her true feelings from Woods, Della fears she can’t be his rock without dragging him down into the darkness with her. But is she strong enough to let go of the last thing holding her together?

My Review:

Ever since the Too Far series, Abbi Glines has been one of those authors whose book I have to read. I don't even read the synopsis anymore because I know she's THAT GOOD. With that being said, this was a nice continuation to the series. I didn't really like a few aspects of it, but I can deal.

I really like how Della grew in this novel. It's really inspiring to read about (& I totally wish I could find a guy like Woods, but life hasn't thrown be a bone yet....-.-). I didn't like that her first response to everything was to leave Woods. You've been in a relationship for some time now and you still can't ask him what he was really talking about? You don't trust him enough to let him explain that it was all a very big misunderstanding? If the answer to that is no then you don't really have a relationship, do you?

Woods was amazing, kind, understanding, kind of overbearing at times and do I need to go on? I also liked how he showed his mother who's boss and how he dealt with Angelina after she finally almost killed Della. He also had a needy phase, which was just adorable to see. But what brought it on just made my heart hurt (for him and because my heart couldn't take it either...I just wasn't expecting that curveball at all).

I learned something new about Mrs. Glines in this book and that something is: She isn't afraid of killing off her characters. Just answer me WHY Mrs. Glines! I would rather you have killed off the girl and have written 2 more spin-off series on each male involved to find them a "soul mate". Now I just hate the girl and will not be reading the books involving this character. It's all her(character's) fault, DAMN IT!

I got so hung up on the rug being swept out from under me that I didn't even concentrate on the ending of the book. All I know is that it was a happy endingish kind of thing. But now I can not wait for the continuation of this book which will be Grant's story. I am really excited about that one!!

My Favorite Quotes:

"Understand that if you make me choose, I will choose her without a second thought."

"I'm always on your side. You can push and shove - hell, you can even slap me - but I will still be here, ready to face the world with you."

"But it doesn't take away the fact I'm a man and I'm possessive of one thing. You."

Book Review: Say When By Tara West

Say When
(Something More #1)
By Tara West

He told me to say when, but I can’t. Not with Andrés. It’s so hard to say anything when he’s trailing feather soft kisses down my neck, or when his touch sends hot currents of lust rippling across my skin.
Then there’s the way he smiles and offers soft words of encouragement when I’m creating art, almost like he believes I have talent.

He’s not like any guy I’ve ever met. Not like my ex-fiancée. Not like my father. He’s got me thinking that maybe we can have something more. More than just lust, degradation, and abuse.

And now I’m scared, because that means I’ll have to trust him with more than just my body, but with my heart, too.

My Review:

I am a total sucker for books with abused turned strong heroines. With that being said, I can't really say I enjoyed this book very much. It wasn't so bad that I was being dragged through the novel, but it was so good that I was speed reading to get to the end. It was just average.

This book didn't focus on the emotional part of the abuse. When the story is introduced Cristina has already gone through the "transformation" from abused victim to strong I-will-kick-you-in-the-balls-if-you-mess-with-me attitude. It would have been better had the story began a little earlier in Cristina's life.

The stinking rich fiancé (Jackson) was a b*tch to read about. The words used by Cristina to describe him had me laughing hysterically.
"He looks like a child on the verge of a tantrum."

Everything Andrés was, Jackson wasn't. On the contrary to Jackson, Andrés was charming, caring and deserving of affection. He was also mexican (which was a huge problem with Cristina's mother) and had a great personality. Andrés was just amazing to read about.

Cristina's mother (AKA The Spitting Cobra - Thanks to Karri for that nickname) was a selfish, racist, prejudiced, cold hearted woman. She stood there while Cristina was being abused and did nothing. She even had the audacity to say that she was the one with the pain and guilt. She even insists on Cristina marrying a rich, annoying and snobbish guy.

Karri really surprised me in the end. The twist the author put there totally threw me for a loop. I just wasn't expecting that. Which was a really good surprise.

The only problem I had with this novel was the way Cristina kept insisting on comparing Andrés with Jackson. Hun, there's just no way to compare a good, kind hearted man to a rich snob who has his daddy to bank him for the rest of his life. So move on already.

Favorite Quotes:

"The spitting cobra is waiting for me at the door with her fangs unsheathed."

"He hates how they always call him a hero, especially when he doesn't feel like one. Heroes are supposed to save the day and get the girl."

"Keep your eyes on the prize."

My Review:

This was an average read, but it could have been way better. I had a problem with most of the characters and their reactions to everything. Jessi and Landon were the only 2 that were borderline "normal".

Kane was amazing (physically speaking, he had tattoo sleeves, and a little more on his chest).
Also this quote expresses what I'm feeling as well:

"(...)Kane with his tattoos, piercing, biker boots and- from what I had seen so far- monotone wardrobe(...)"

I had a huge problem with how he would speak sometimes, though. It seemed like he would speak as if he were reading a poem. He would go on and on about how special she is, how he can't live without her and blah blah blah. Well, guess what, men don't speak like that and as much as some would wish it, I don't. It also became annoying how he would let Kelsey step all over him towards the end.

Kelsey started out like a nice character, but ended up an over reacting b*tch. The thing that I found strange was that

*SPOILER ALERT*(Highlight to read)
Even after she described Katie pulling Kane down for a kiss (not the other way around) she still put Kane at fault. Well couldn't you have hung around for, I don't know, maybe a few more SECONDS to see him pushing Katie away?!

*Spoiler questions:
-How did making Nate a psycho/kidnapper add to the plot line? & Why kill him? This could have been a wicked series, had it been organized properly.
-How did Kesley's father get to the warehouse before Nate and Kesley got there? Is he a mind reader?
-How did Kane, after getting the bad news from Jessi, just guess where Nate was taking Kesley? I understand that that warehouse was a party spot, but Nate's dad is rich and probably has a bunch of warehouses. Why that one in particular?
*END OF SPOILER*

That just annoyed me on so many levels. Even after he wanted to explain what happened she wouldn't listen and would cry like a baby. Well if you don't want to listen you deserve your misery.

Jessi & Landon and Maw & Paw were two of the best couples this book has to offer. Both relationships were so cute and sappy and happy (Great, now I'm rhyming. What's next pigs flying?). I just loved them and let's leave it at that. C;

One other HUGE problem I had when reading this novel: the author chose to add action/suspense in the last two chapters. I mean, REALLY? Instead of cramming all the unnecessary action there, why not build it from chapter one and have the book end with a "BOOM!"? The worst part of it all was that, as fast as it began, it ended. I got whiplash in the last few pages. It was like BOOM: Story over.

P.S. Who paid for the girls' tattoos? Or were they free?....My brain hurts.

Book Review: Patch Up By Stephanie Witter

Patch Up
By Stephanie Witter

Skye followed her long time boyfriend to Seattle for their first year of college, but he dumped her after only a week. The relationship brought only pain and destruction in Skye's life, and yet, she can't bring herself to open up and live her life.

"What if I am already broken into pieces?"

She hates to be touched, hiding under her oversized shirts and behind her wild frizzy hair. Even her bubbly roommate can't reach her. And yet ...

"I'm the guy who knows how you can hurt so much that your insides feel like they're cut and bleeding."

The tall, handsome, and tattooed TA in her psychology class changes everything when he literally collides with her and confronts her. For the first time in a long time, she wants to try and open up to this guy whose dark, intense eyes can't hide his own pain despite his dazzling smile getting to her.

However, just when she's starting to live again, her ex-boyfriend comes back, breaking her time and time again, making it all the more complicated.

She wants to fight for herself and for this building thing with the TA, even when he pushes her away, but can two broken people patch each other up?

"I never thought colliding with someone could change lives, but it is possible."

* Due to some shocking scenes, this novel is for readers of 18 and up.

My Review:

* ARC provided by the author in exchange of a honest.

I was so excited to receive this ARC! When I say excited, it's the understatement of the year! It's so fulfilling to receive an ARC of a book you want to read. It's nice to have a chance at something you want so badly.

On with the Review:

One subject that gets my panties in a twist is abusive relationships or abusive anything for that matter. On that note, I started this book with that in mind since I tend to get angry at the novel because of how the matter is treated. I was pleasantly surprised by how the events in this novel turned out.

I loved Duke. He's got that tortured soul thing going on and that's just hot. For me to thoroughly describe him I have to use a quote from the book:

"He's got the perfect bad-boy look going on without the bad attitude."
Nuff said sista.

Skye. I felt really bad for her. In the beginning, it was annoying to read on and on about how she hides it so well, her "shield" protects her and how she would NEVER, EVER tell her parents since they like her ex's parents so much. Well honey, I've got news for you: Your parents aren't the ones who would have to live with him and deal with him every hour of every day. It's YOU. It shouldn't matter what parents think about the others parents, what matters is you being happy. Not them.

BUT, that turned around. It didn't happen magically from one page to the other. Duke and Kate played a vital role in everything. It was really sweet to watch her come out of her shell and realize that there are people who care about her well being and that truly want to help her.

Sean. I wanted to murder him since page 1. From what I read in the book Sean has a "dark" background as well. Earth to Sean: Just because you had/have a hard home life doesn't mean you have the right to make other people your property and abuse them as well. Theoretically speaking, in my opinion, if you have a hard home life you would try and get away from that by finding a meaningful relationship with someone who cares for you. In Sean's mind apparently if his life is hard, then he has to make someone else's life the same h*** he's had.

The only con I will point out in this book is the hot and cold thing that went on with Skye and Duke. It was over the top. After one fight, Duke would leave and ignore Skye for days/weeks. After they get back together, another fight breaks out and Skye leaves. It went back and forth like that for chapters and more chapters. I was getting whiplash by chapter 10.

Favorite Quotes:

"He may be a better actor than I am, but one broken person can always recognize another one."

"I love you, Skye. You're in my heart, in my head, under my skin. You're my present and my future."

"I almost killed you in front of your parents. Talk about first impression."

My Review:

This book was an overall good read. I am in neutral ground. There wasn't anything I particularly liked or disliked about this novel. It was a good continuation to the first novel, but this feels like it's the last book in the spin-off series. Then again, the story is basically over so I don't know what I'm b****ing about anyway.

The only thing that I found weird was that Mr. Turkey got lost in the story line. Sure he too got a "happy ending", but he never saw a vet and they never new why he was the way he was. He seemed more like a dog than a vulture in my mind too, though.

I am a sucker for abused heroines (which I've mentioned in my previous reviews). So this book really called out to me. It's refreshing to also read about a somewhat abused hero (not the what you're thinking). I'll just leave that tidbit of information and hope that you're curious enough to read this mini series. Which I hope you won't regret C:

Favorite Quotes:

"(...) if you hurt her - if you lay a finger on her - I will get my daddy's gun and shoot you. It's a promise, not a threat".

"Who knows, you might end up in a car with a crazy girl and a cross-dressing vulture".

"Compared to you, well, nothing compares to you so let's just say I'm lucky and leave it at that".

Book Review: Single Wolf Female By Jessica Sims

Single Wolf Female
(Midnight Liaisons #2.6)
By Jessica Sims

Published: August 6th 2013

Alice Savage needs an alpha – any alpha – to prevent her pack from being usurped by the lecherous Roscoe. As a last resort, she signs up for the Midnight Liaisons dating service, never expecting that she’d find the alpha she seeks. She certainly didn’t expect Jackson Wilder, a laid back, sexy-as-sin outsider who claims to be an alpha.
But Alice has a problem that most female wolf alphas don’t — she’s a virgin. And the female alpha of a wolf pack always belongs to a male alpha. Luckily for her, Jackson’s utterly gorgeous and willing to take things slow. But is he alpha enough to help her save her pack…or is he too easy-going to be the man she needs?

My Review:

I am in love with Mrs. Sims writing. Every novel I've read by her has such a compelling and unique voice that it's impossible not to think you're actually living a different characters life every time. This novella was no different. The only problem with it is that it's a novella and not a full length novel.

I loved, loved, loved Jackson! Even being an alpha he never let his needs prevail over hers. He was sweet, protective and there for her every step of the way. Though I didn't like how they met since it seemed a little too much like a miracle, which I am not fond of. But it's a novella, what can I expect with a limited number of pages.

Alice was nice. She had just lost 2 dear people in her life so her emotional state was to be expected. She cared deeply of all the people in her pack and having Jackson there helping her along with everything was just a plus.

I can not wait for the next installment in the Midnight Liaisons series!! I will be on the edge of my seat, biting my nails until book 4 hits the shelves or Amazon.com. Which ever comes first C;

Favorite Quotes:

"Aw, that was cute. She thought her were-kitty could beat up on my alpha mate".

"You're a plumber. You have no street cred".

"F***ing hell, women. I want a pack, not jail time".
